Grey Cup 2011 Vancouver

CKF was fortunate this year to be able to take 14 cancer patients and their companions to the 99th Grey Cup in Vancouver. The ages range from 7 to 17, they came from as far south as Weyburn and north all the way to Prince Albert. Our group attended the Vanier Cup, took part in the Grey Cup parade, did some shopping in Granville Island, had some private time at the Scotia Bank inter-acitve centre, got to meet with TSN personalities and of course attend the big game on Sunday.

Launch of the Chris Knox Foundation and our 1st year

Two weeks after the Grey Cup game in Toronto Chris lost his battle with cancer. In January of 2008 the founding members of what would become the Chris Knox Foundation met for the very first time, we chose a name and with the direction from Mr. Harvey Granatier and Mr. Reg Howard set in motion the ground work to start and grow the Foundation. Our very first board was elected with Mr. Kelly Schermann as the Chair, Mr. Trevor Lowey as co-chair, Mrs. Tammy Lowey was our Secretary/ treasurer. The other founding board members were Mr. Harvery Granatier, Mr George Yannitsos, Mrs.Tami Wall and Sharla and Kim Folk. The board defined who and how the Foundation would help. CKF held a media launch in the Green and White room to announce the Foundation to the public. As with any new charity start up funds were low but we were able to purchase 6 season tickets to the Rider games, and we also sent some of the kids to concerts. A new running back to the Riders, Mr. Wes Cates stepped forward and donated 4 season tickets that year, he also took time to meet with some of the families attending games that year. We were amazed and deeply touched by donations from the private and business sectors of not only funds but also seats to games or concerts, Saskatchewan is truly filled with generous and caring people. Thankyou to Phoenix advertising who set up our web site thus allowing us to spread our message, we were new to the chairity world and they really believed in us. CKF would like to thank all those who helped us in that first year getting started, you do not know how much you meant.
