Chris Knox Foundation Sending Eight Youth to 100th Grey Cup
Thursday November 22, 2012 (Regina, SK) −The Chris Knox Foundation is extremely pleased to be sending eight young people who are currently undergoing cancer treatment and a family member to the 2012 Grey Cup in Toronto this weekend.
“We are so pleased to be able to provide a wonderful memory for our special recipients and their families,” said George Yannitsos, CKF chairman. “All of this is possible because of generosity of our great Saskatchewan corporations and individual donors.”
This trip to the 100th Grey Cup is the fifth anniversary of the memorable 2007 Grey Cup when the community rallied together to send Chris Knox and ten other special guests to Toronto. “I am very proud of our foundation being able to continue the legacy that started five years ago,” said Sharla Folk, Chris’s mother. “I continue to be overwhelmed with the generosity of so many caring companies and individuals that make this trip possible.”
The special guests of the Foundation travelling to the Grey Cup range in ages from seven to 19 and come from all parts of Saskatchewan. The group will leave from Regina on Friday, November 23. Upon arrival in Toronto they will attend the “Riders in the Sky Kick-Off Party” on the look-out level of the CN Tower and the Vanier Cup at Rogers Center. They also have time to take in the Nissan Family Zone, mbna Adrenaline Zone and TELUS Street Festival topped off with attending the 100th Grey Cup game on Sunday, November 25.
“While we always hope the Riders will be in the Grey Cup game the Foundation has committed to sending special recipients and family members to the Grey Cup each year knowing that we will continue this wonderful legacy that started in Toronto five years ago.”

Before losing his battle to cancer, Chris Knox won Saskatchewanʼs heart with his devotion to the Saskatchewan Roughriders and their 2007 Grey Cup run. The Chris Knox Foundation is an organization which helps young Saskatchewan cancer patients to attend events; giving these young people a much-deserved reprieve and creating happy memories with their families.

About the Chris Knox Foundation
In 2007 a beloved Saskatchewan Roughrider fan, Chris Knox was receiving treatment at the Regina Cancer Clinic and was hoping to attend the Labour Day Classic game between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Riders. The game was a sell out so the clinic used their contacts to secure tickets for Chris to see the game. Not only did he attend the game but after the game Mike McCullough from the Riders brought Chris into the locker room where the team presented him with the game ball and prayed for his health.

As the Riders went on their magical run to the Grey Cup that year a fan by the name of Kelly Schermann wanted to help Chris attend the Grey Cup in Toronto. Sadly, Chris’s health was deteriorating to the point that his mother did not think it was possible for him to make those trips. However, Chris showed tremendous courage and was given the go ahead to attend the Grey Cup. At the same time, Chris was concerned about why he was singled out when he knew of so many brave young boys and girls, young adults at the cancer clinic who equally deserved a special memory of attending the Grey Cup. The Riders and the newly elected Premier of Saskatchewan had stepped up and took care of the arrangements for Chris and his mother and his caregiver to attend the Grey Cup. In addition, community donations secured spots for ten very special recipients from the two Saskatchewan cancer clinics to attend the 2007 Grey Cup in Toronto.

Sadly, not long after their return from Toronto, Chris passed away and the decision was made to create a foundation in his honour. Thus, the Chris Knox Foundation was founded in 2008 and not only has the foundation sent over 100 special recipients and family members to five Grey Cups but the foundation has also granted over 933 wishes to concert, cultural events and sporting events.

99th Grey Cup Weekend in Vancouver

For the third time since the memorable trip Chris and 10 other special guests took to the 2007 Grey Cup trip in Toronto, 13 very special recipients and 13 family members will be attending the 99th Grey Cup on Sunday, November 27 in beautiful Vancouver. The trip will originate from Saskatoon on Friday, November 25 and upon arrival in Vancouver, the special guests and family members will enjoy participating in the Grey Cup parade, a tour of the wonderful sites in Vancouver and of course, VIP seats for the big game.
